Who we are
The Postnatal Depression Family/Whanau NZ Trust was first established in 2007 by a group of medical professionals and consumers who were passionate about postnatal depression and perinatal distress.
We operate under the name of PND Canterbury (Postnatal Depression Canterbury) and are currently based in Spreydon, Christchurch.
We are a registered not-for-profit charity and are goverened by a Board of Trustees who volunteer their time.
Our amazing facililtator Sonya runs the support group, the playgroup and does home visits.
We have a wonderful childcare facilitator Cassie who, along with a team of volunteers, takes care of the children while parents are attending support group.
We rely soley on funding grants & donations and without our amazing sponsors and volunteers we wouldn’t be able to run our groups.
What we do
We offer support for mums who suffer from postnatal depression, anxiety and other related illnesses in the form of a support group, playgroup and online groups.
The currently funded maternal mental health support systems in Christchurch only offer support to mums until their child turns 1.
We know firsthand that PND is often diagnosed later than that so offer support or mums with children under 5. Our online community is also available for past support group mums whose children may now be even older.
As we grow we hope to be able to offer support for fathers suffering from PND and help families learn about this illness and how to help their loved ones.
